Performance Course Player of the Week (5): Lil’ Jordan Humphrey – Southlake Carroll
When Southlake Carroll is mentioned in the high school football ranks it’s easy to immediately think about the daunting air attack of the Dragons. The big names that have come through Southlake include Chase Daniel, Riley Dodge, Greg McElroy, among many others. Sometimes it’s easy to forget about what really wins football games; the ability of a football team to keep the ball on the ground. Last Friday night as the Dragons of Southlake Carroll were set to take on Abilene High as both teams brought untarnished records into the contest. Without standout quarterback Ryan Agnew for the end of the first half and all of the second, the spotlight shifted to junior running back Lil’ Jordan Humphrey. Humphrey, eager to prove that the Dragons can beat you in more ways than one, shredded the Abilene defense as he used 19 carries to carve out 125 yards and 4 scores. The junior made his mark on the game early as he converted a huge momentum shifting 4th down when the Dragons gambled from inside their own territory. Lil’ Jordan continued to dominate the defense and helped lead a Southlake Carroll offense that amassed 650 total yards on the day to an eventual blowout of previously unbeaten and fellow state power Abilene High 63-28. Through the first 4 games with one of the most difficult schedules in all of high school football Humphrey has stepped up and been a huge reason the Dragons boast an undefeated record. In Performance Course this summer, site coordinator Jeremiah Chapman noted big improvements in Lil’ Jordan. Work ethic, attitude, and leadership are the qualities he pointed to as the biggest gains Humphrey made. We look forward to watching Lil’ Jordan develop and grow in our program! For his efforts, Lil’ Jordan Humphrey is the Performance Course Player of the Week. Congrats Lil’ Jordan! Protect the Tradition!
